Adoption Through Foster Care Program: Kimber’s Story
It just takes the right placement for a kid and parent to consider adoption through foster care. Kimber Robinson and her husband were just the right placement for two siblings, a toddler and an infant. They came into their care in February of 2018. The siblings had been in foster care system for some time before they arrived at the Robinson household.
Building Trust from Adoption Through Foster Care
The family had to learn to trust each other. At first the older child only saw the couple as caretakers. It took time and a lot of ups and downs to build a strong relationship. But all that work payed off once they officially became Mom and Dad.
A year and a half after their original placement the couple received news that their adoption date had finally been set! The entire day seemed beautiful and happy for the family. Being in the courtroom only made the day better. The judge that handled their adoption let the family know that cases like theirs were his favorite because he had been adopted as well. Everything just seemed to be falling into place.
After the Robinson family had already grown into a family of four the couple became pregnant. The entire family prepared to add another kid into the already busy household. Now with three kids in the house everything became louder, messier, and fuller. But the Robinsons loved it because she says that her life is so much better after going through the entire process.
Now after having some experience with the process Kimber Robinson actually started law school and wants to help others with the process. She advises those want to foster to definitely do it! The world needs more people who want to help kids in the system. The process can be a rollercoaster but seeing the change you can is worth it.
