Things don’t seem to be getting easier and self-care during the outbreak is so important. Many people are managing a huge shift away from their regular life. So how does one practice self-care during the outbreak? What does self-care even look like when you’re in a house full of people? Here are Foster Love - Together We Rise’s top 5 simple ways to practice self-care during the outbreak.

1. Alone Time

If you are caring for your family, children, spouse, partner, whomever. It is important to take some time alone every day to yourself. Whether you wake up a little early to check in with yourself and your feelings. Or you make some time in the evening, noontime, whenever. The point is, take a few minutes each day for yourself.

2. Treat Yourself

This can mean a lot of different things, to a lot of different people. Really invest in doing nice things for yourself, whether it’s having a piece of chocolate or ordering a new house robe. It is as simple as enjoying your favorite tea and honey each morning. Do not hesitate to treat yourself because you deserve it.

3. Create a Calm Space

Designate a drama-free zone in your home. Whether that is your bedroom, patio, or a specific chair, let your family know that this space is meant to be free from stress. Feel free to share it or ask your family to join you in designating the calm space in your home.

4. Get Into Your Hobbies

Spending 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at home is a lot of time in one place. Try and use the time to get back into things you enjoy. Read that book that has been collecting dust, play sudoku, learn a new language. Whatever hobbies bring you joy, invest in them.

5. Spa Day, Every Day

Take more baths, enjoy longer showers, get into a multistep skin-care routine, floss. Invest the time in making your self-care a priority. It doesn’t have to be a lot of crazy steps or additional things. But whatever you can work in your schedule is great!

In Conclusion

In conclusion, we don’t know how much longer we will be in quarantine. We don’t know how much longer we will be held up in our careers, school, life beyond our home. But we do know that we can control ourselves and take time to reflect. Who do you want to be after this pandemic? Taking time for self-care during the outbreak is not easy. However, you are worth investing in even if the time you can spare is small.
