Adopting from foster care can be simple or far more complicated than you can ever imagine. Each story we receive is different and comes with its set of unique challenges. For Erica, she jumped right into adopting and her world quickly turned upside down. Here is Erica’s foster to adopt story:

Beginning the Foster Process

Erica’s journey began in April 2018. She became licensed to foster three months later. Erica and her husband wanted a home full of children and love. She states that:

 “We just know our home is meant for the cries of babies, the laughter of children, and the pitter-patter of little babes running through the house. Our home is not meant to be a quiet one where we are comfortable. It is not meant for us to come and go as we please. Our home is made for love. It is made for children who are ours for a short time; made to be messy, for writings on the wall, for milk puddles on the table and for late nights awake on the couch. Made for tears as we say goodbye as children are reunified with family and it is made for healing and moving forward afterward.”

Officially Adopting From Foster Care

On October 1st, they adopted their first daughter and eight months later she officially became a Vargas. Erica and her husband fell in love with her quickly. Sharing the same birthday with her late father, Erica can’t help but think it was all meant to be and their daughter was placed in their life for a reason. She expresses, “Our life is better because of this journey. Our hearts have softened for bio parents. We have more understanding and we see a need and we are doing everything we can to meet it and help restore families whenever possible.”

Because some may be hesitating on jumping all-in, Erica advises, “Don’t be afraid to take the first step. There is such a need for adoptive and foster homes!”
