Help Adopt U.S. Kids

Tori Brasher and her husband always wanted to adopt US kids. They both came from families who had fostered and adopted. This felt like a no brainer! So in 2015, the Brashers started their adoption journey.

Meeting the Kids

The Brashers received their license to foster through Children’s Home Society of North Carolina. On December 5th, 2016 they got a call from a neighboring county to foster 2 little boys. They were part of a sibling set of 6 with 7 on the way. One month later the Brashers brought home their baby sister at 3 days. Since then they have never been apart.

Hitting Milestones

adopt us kidsWith children who have had a rough start, it can be stressful on their development. But that doesn’t mean that they can’t fight and overcome so much. Tori shares some insight on this,

The best experience I’ve had is watching my children grow. They all had significant delays due to the neglect and impact of drug abuse while their bio-mom was pregnant. Seeing them hit milestones doctors said they would never hit. Seeing them grow and thrive. Just being with them every day.

Tori tells us about how much her life has changed with their “little crew.” She says,

I thought I knew what love was and I thought I knew what God’s Grace was until I became their mom. My husband is a nurse and I am an elementary school assistant principal and we had to learn to alter our schedules having 3 kids under 2 at one time. 3 kids doctors appointments, therapy appointments, specialist appointments, etc. But I wouldn’t change anything.

Some Welcomed Advice

adopt us kidsIt is so beautiful to hear how much these precious children have transformed the Brashers. We asked Tori if she had any advice to offer people looking into helping adopt US kids. She says,

For future adoptive families please remember that even though you may be overjoyed with the addition to your family, please remember it is not a joyous occasion for other families or the children. Remember to be flexible, I’ve met my children’s bio parents and older siblings. I never thought I would because I was angry about what my kiddos experienced but I realized that in order to explain to my kiddos where they come from I had to take the first step and find out. Be patient with the court system and social workers. Sometimes it doesn’t seem like things are going the way you want but there is a process that we sometimes don’t fully understand. Spend your time enjoying your children.

In Conclusion

In conclusion, we want to thank the Brashers for sharing their story about how they adopted US kids through foster care. For those looking into adoption, please check out our free adoption calculator HERE. It gives you insight on cost per adoption type based on state.
