Kyleigh’s Foster to Adopt Story

foster to adopt story

Kyleigh’s foster to adopt story may share some similarities to with other adoption stories. But no one adoption story or experience is ever exactly the same. Foster Love - Together We Rise shares open and honest stories from all perspectives to help inform and inspire prospective foster/adoptive parents.

This week we meet Kyleigh, a mother of two, who is kind enough to share her foster to adopt story with us. Wanting to help children and become a mom and dad more than anything. Kyleigh shares how her husband set out to make their goals come true.

New Beginnings

Due to infertility struggles, Kyleigh and her husband decided to pursue becoming foster parents with the goal of eventually adopting. Kyleigh expresses that she and her husband decided that they “should use the money for kids who needed us that are already here.”

In February of 2018, Kyleigh and her husband started the foster to adopt process. Kyleigh states, “Our kids were placed with us April of 2016. Honestly I never even thought about adopting until I had become so broken-hearted to be a mom.” After 748 days (2 years and 3 weeks) Kyleigh and her husband adopted their kids on May 10th, 2018.

Advice

Reflecting on her past, Kyleigh expresses, “The whole process was very emotional for us. We had numerous times where we thought we might lose them to a distant relative they had never met. We had many ups and downs but nothing meant more to me then hearing the words ‘call an attorney and start your adoption.”

Before her journey, Kyleigh found herself feeling saddened. “I wanted to be a mom more than anything! Now my arms are as full as my heart and Mom is the best name I have ever been called.”

For those considering pursuing becoming a foster/ adoptive parent, Kyleigh encourages, “Have patience and know that what’s meant to be will be!”
